Just Change, Fairly Traded Tea served in our cafe

Just Change is an alternative trading system that links local communities in India and UK, enabling them to control the terms on which they trade and the way profits are distributed. It challenges the injustice of the global market and creates a system where communities can participate in an economy based on human values and principles of justice and co-operation.

So if you have had one of the 11,000 mugs of tea served in our Community Café since September 2009, you have helped support this solidarity project.

During July 2009 we made an extra one off payment of £200 to just change to help with their volunteer traveling costs.

Emmaus Hastings & Rother

Following consultation, the whole of the Emmaus Brighton & Hove Community fully supported the establishment of a Emmaus Community in Hastings. This resulted in a financial commitment as well as support from Companions working on site, goods supplied, services offered. This we see as an ongoing commitment over many years.

As one of the oldest UK Communities, Emmaus Brighton and Hove is frequently asked to give guided tours to prospective supporters of other Communities. We also host new Community Leaders and Assistants for short stays as part of their training. 

Companions from Brighton have given support to new fledgling Communities in the UK, giving valued assistance to their Management teams and to new Companions.

We have also pledged to give money each year to the Emmaus UK Development Fund to help new and struggling communities.
