Launching our Solidarity Book Sale

On Saturday 28 August, we will be holding a pop-up book sale to raise funds for three Sussex-based organisations, including Project Antifreeze, Roundabout Nursery and Crawley Open House.

We are a charity that gives back. As well as providing a safe home, work and training for up to 57 people who have experienced homelessness – known as companions – we also get involved in local outreach work.

The three organisations selected for this year’s Solidarity Book Sale were chosen because they each mean a lot to our companions. Companion Ross says: “I wanted to support Crawley Open House as they helped me when I was first homeless.” Companion Chris adds: “They have all the support you need under one roof.”

Joel Lewis, Business Manager at Emmaus Brighton & Hove, shares his thoughts on the event: “We’re so excited that we can finally hold our first solidarity sale since lockdown restrictions eased, and hope to raise as much money as possible for the charities our companions have picked.

“Solidarity is at the heart of what we do at Emmaus. As well as supporting our local community, acts of solidarity like this can be very valuable for our companions, as it helps rebuild their self-esteem and proves that everyone has the capacity to make a difference to the lives of others.”

Our Solidarity Book Sale will be held at our Secondhand Superstore in Portslade on Saturday 28 August, between 10.30am – 4.30pm. Customers can choose how much they would like to pay for each book they purchase.
