As well as being a successful hostage negotiator Terry Waite was also a captive himself. In his presentation he will discuss the reasons for his captivity; the conditions under which he was kept; and the way he managed to maintain mental, spiritual and physical health in an extreme situation.
He will refer to his book, 'Out of the Silence' in which he speaks about the importance of language and memory in maintaining inner cohesion. The ticket for the evening will include a signed copy of this his latest book.
Terry’s experience in captivity gave him a great insight into the misery, isolation, fear, boredom and despair that many homeless people go through. His empathy with those who have experienced homelessness and social exclusion makes him a much loved president.
